Review Policy

More and more often, I’ve been reviewing ARC’s and other books sent to me by authors and publishers.

So, it’s about time for a Review Policy. I’ll try to keep it short and simple – focusing on the things that will make me say no thank you and what my typical review process is.

Here’s the deal, I’d rather not review self-published books. I don’t want to go into the specifics as to why this is the case, but I thought it fair to let folks know.

If you want me to review a book, use the contact page to email me, and give me a synopsis of the book along with the general information (e.g. the author, the publishing date, etc). (And by the way, I’d really prefer if the email wasn’t a form email. Those things are horrendously impersonal, obviously, and simply not fun.) I’ll email back no matter what, but if I’m interested in reading and reviewing the book, I’ll send my address. I’ll try to read and review the book before the publication date or within a week afterward.

Books will only be reviewed later if…

1) I have other books to review that need to be reviewed ASAP.

2) My schedule prohibits it. There’s nothing I can do if my mom has an infinite amount of errands planned.

Books will be put down and not picked back up if…

1) They’re far too adult. Most likely, I’ll be able to tell if a book is too inappropriate for my tastes by the synopsis, but I might be caught off guard.

My usual protocol:

I’ll send an “official review”, which will be between 70 and 110 words (I try to keep them around 85). Below that review will be additional notes. I’ll talk about the things I mentioned in the review a bit more deeply and touch on a few more things.

After that, I’ll post the official review, along with a longer, more detailed review, here and on Goodreads. I’ll email the link to you. (And I’ll always remember to say thank you, like a good little girl.) If I love the book, I’ll offer to promote it (while staying true to my opinions). I’d also be glad to interview authors or host giveaways.

If you want to add to or eliminate any part of this process, let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this before emailing me!
